It's nice to be back at Haddo after a few weeks away, and great to see the park looking as good as ever in the autumn sun.
The work on the new fish ladder at the outflow to the lake has been finished while I was away and looks fantastic. There are two new wooden leaps as well as a series of stone steps running from above the cascades bridge down into Craigie Wood.
During the work the burn was electrofished, and they found just a small number of both salmon and trout (as well as about 50 eels!). Hopefully the new fish pass will mean that many more of both species will make it up the burn this year to breed.
Huge thanks to the River Ythan Trust and Inverurie Pre-Cast for all their work on the project, especially over the past couple of weeks. The bridges and circular walk are now open again, although there's a bit of mud on the paths around the area where they've been working so best to make sure you're wearing suitable shoes.
If you've visited over the past week, hopefully you've made it up to the Peatyards to see the beautiful exhibtion of textiles, paintings and ceramics on display as part of North East Open Studios.
As well as stunning oils and major paintings for sale, there are also cards, prints, beautiful patchwork and embroidered bags, ceramic coasters and wooden badger bookends for sale- perfect if you're looking for presents!
It's another full weekend of events starting tomorrow. If you're interested in art and antiques, you can bring your own paintings, furniture or collectables to a valuation day in the Hall on Sunday. Lyon and Turnbull Auctioneers will be at Haddo from 10.30am to 4pm to look at and valuable anything you'd care to bring along. Emtry is £5 which includes valuation of two items.
Our popular fun dog training classes, including lots of advice on how to keep your dog safe in the outdoors are running again on Saturday and Sunday, drop in any time between 2-4pm for free advice and training treats. Finally there's our second dog park agility trail day, also on Sunday. We'll be starting at 10am, building jumps and weave poles so come along and give us a hand!
