The Estate

Haddo House & Country Park is surrounded by the Haddo Estate, which is still owned by the 7th Marquess of Aberdeen & Temair.

The Estate is dedicated to farming, forestry and country sports with a strong emphasis on sustainability and conservation. It provides essential employment and housing for many local people.

The farm is a mix of arable and cattle. The forestry is committed to replanting all clearfelled woods as well as planting a large proportion of hardwoods for future generations to enjoy, all the while enhancing the magnificent trees that dominate our landscape.

The Estate’s commitment to environmentally friendly projects has been borne out by the installation of four woodchip boilers providing heating and hot water to over thirty homes, and the construction of a hydroelectric scheme generating pollution-free electricity into the national grid all day, every day.

There is seasonal pheasant shooting on the estate and trout fishing, either at the Haddo Fishery or on the River Ythan.  The Estate works in close co-operation with the Ythan District Salmon Fishery Board to maintain and enhance native fish populations within all Haddo water courses.

The Estate also runs Formartine’s, a café and shop just a short drive from Haddo, which focusses on serving and sourcing local products.
